Some Fun 80's Stuff - Class of 1986

I wish I had my high school picture to post here, complete with flashdance inspired cut sweatshirt, long-sleeved hoodie, stoner-feathered hair and neon aqua high heeled shoe earrings. Oh yes - and let's not forget the pale pink lipstick, blue mascara and blue eyeliner, lined inside the eye for maximum freakish looking effect (or like you had a serious case of conjunctivitis - all the better to hide your stoned-ness - oops! Did I say that?).

Shelly over at Bagmomma,my comprade in having turned 40 this year has inspired me to do this cute 80's Meme. I will just preface this by saying I grew up in an area where disco, hip hop and R&B and heavy metal ruled the populous. You were either into one or the other, or you were into "new wave." I wavered between hip hop girl and rocker girl. Most of my girlfriends were into the hip hop thing, but my older brother was a heavy metal, "Joe Six Pack" kind of guy with lots of friends. I guess I sort of had an identity crisis, but I digress...

If you'd like to do it, go to Music Outfitters and type in the year you graduated in the search field. Bold the songs you like, strike through the songs you really hated.

"Dancing on Air!" Hello, this was the show that practically launched Duran Duran in the the US! And filmed right here in Philly.

Yep, me and Kelly Ripa, BFF's.

Ok, I am elaborating about Kelly Ripa, although I am sure I ran into her a million times. I was never ON the show, but I spent many days outside the building, and had a few friends that were on the show. Call me a lame groupie. Kelly was a POPULAR name, there were a few we hung out with. I was just excited to be out of the house without my parents. lol.

oh, and speaking of Lisa Lisa, my totally unreliable older boyfriend claimed he dated her years later. Who knows if that was true.

Ok, does the name Bob Catalano ring a bell? *gush gush* Man, he was CUTE! I still have the show on VHS tapes with videos of the time (Samantha Fox, Bon Jovi) in between. I wonder what happened to that geeky host dude.

I don't remember Bob. I've found that everyone knows someone around here that was on the show... the people I knew were on it around 1984-87 (the show started I think in '81 if I recall). My crush was on a dancer named Jimmy.

The host was Eddie Bruce! http://www.eddiebruce.com/bio.html He's still around here.

Shelli - I think Dance party USA was after Dancing on Air. Bob Catalano was the cute guy who always wore sunglasses and it was a huge deal when he took them off. There was also a girl named Princess with a tear who thought she was Prince.
